She brought you into this world; show her how important she is

She’s there when you’re born, she cooks for you, she cleans for you and nurses you when you’re sick. She’s the rock grounding you, she’s your mother. Take the time this Mother’s Day to celebrate this amazing woman.

The earliest form of Mother’s Day dates back to the ancient Greek spring festival dedicated to maternal goddesses. The Greeks used the occasion to honor Rhea, wife of Cronus and the mother of many other ancient Greek deities.

Ancient Romans, too, celebrated a spring festival, called Hilaria dedicated to Cybele, another maternal goddess. The ceremonies in honour of Cybele began some 250 years before the birth of Christ. The celebration was made on the Ides of March by making offerings in the temple of Cybele that lasted for three days and included parades, games and balls. The celebrations were apparently so scandalous that the followers of Cybele were eventually banished from Rome.

Early Christians celebrated a Mother’s Day of sorts on the fourth Sunday of Lent in honour of the Virgin Mary, the Mother of Christ. Here in the UK the holiday was expanded to include all mothers. From then on it was then called Mothering Sunday.

The holiday has been strongly upheld in the UK whilst dying down and reappearing elsewhere across the world.

Here at TJK we believe the best way to celebrate your mother’s this year is the gift of Nature. From a long walk in the luscious English countryside, to a bunch of freshly collected flowers, here is my perfect Mother’s Day Gift:
