How To Prolong Your Tan, Naturally
Hopefully you’ll all have been outside recently catching the last of the summer rays, and maybe some of you will have even been on a summer holiday or two! But as the season turns into autumn, we’ll soon be kissing that warm sun goodbye – but that doesn’t have to be the case for the beautiful golden tan you’ve been working on!
Even when you can’t be topping up the tan, there are natural ways that you can prolong the tan you’ve already got – meaning snow white skin need not be the beauty alternative this winter.
Keep your sun-kissed skin glowing throughout the colder months ahead, with these simple tips:
Certain, orange fruit and vegetables are full to the brim with beta-carotene – a naturally occurring pigment found in many vibrant plants, which lends itself to the human body as a potent source of vitamin A and anti-oxidants. When ingested, beta-carotene can actually warm up your natural skin-tone, so when teamed with a tan, this is a great way to stay bronzed as long as possible without using a fake tan. Sweet potatoes, carrots and apricots are all excellent sources of this, so be sure to add those to your winter diet.
Keeping your skin well hydrated inside and out is key to prolonging your summer tan and avoiding unsightly peeling. Drink LOTS of water to keep your cell turnover healthy and your skin bright and firm, and invest in a rich body moisturizer to slather on post shower or bath, every day. This may seem like a bit of a chore at times, but it’s worth it. Not only with your tan stick around longer but your skin will look better all-round. Tiana pure virgin coconut oil is great for this.
Shave, Don’t Wax
Lots of people like to stay smooth for summer, but give your skin a break and skip the waxing for a while. This harsh beauty treatment will often take off the top layer of skin, and with it goes your tan you worked so hard to build! The same goes for any hair removal creams (although with all those chemicals, we recommend you avoid those full stop!) and products containing fruit acids, glycolic acid and salicylic acid. If staying smooth is your thing, don’t worry – you can still shave; just do so with lots of shaving foam and moisturize well, after.
Drink Up Collagen
Collagen is absolutely essential for rebuilding after subjecting your skin to UV damage, and consuming a good daily dose of it will help prolong your tan and keep wrinkles at bay. One of the best ways to get your collagen fix is to juice! There are so many tasty fruit and veg jam packed with collagen, which make for a tasty and mega healthy drink. Using ingredients that are also high in anti-oxidants increases collagen production, so try and get the best of both worlds. Try making a juice up using strawberries, beetroot, kale, blueberries and oranges for high levels of collagen, vitamin C and anti-oxidants. You body and skin will thank you for it!
